Mustard!

As keen as mustard, we set out early for the moutarderie. We dodged all the oldies from the tour bus and and angry bulldog to find out that they really are the hottest tickets in town- sold out! We didn't cut the mustard but that didn't get in the way of making the most of a sunny public holiday.

We took a tour of the famous Hospices de Beaune. The foresight of the patron and the vibrant colours of the tiled roof were very interesting. A free hospital for the poor from the 1400's and amazingly had its last patients in 1984.

At lunch we opted for omlettes and croque monsuir. Because we only had omlettes they only had seats for us off of the sqaure- if you want sunshine you have to pay the big bucks. Rach's sandwich was a real crock: plastic cheese slices in the land of fromage.

Visited the lux Chat. de Pommard. A renovated old estate with a lot of pop art, surrealism and post impressionism. The gallery guide did not appreciate our quietly pointing out that Wahrol is actually spelled Warhol.

Finished the day with a trip back to the 'golden slope': Romanee Conti, La Tache et al. We made a new friend in a Labrador that had good taste. Rach prefered the golden canola.
