Snow

It was so cold for our tour of York that the group that started as 46 people dwindled over 2.5 hours to a miserly 7.

Our guide was a volunteer, and the Council sponsored tours are free. He was very knowledgable on the dark and medieval history of the area, and of its buildings and streets. He was hardcore, and only once hinted that he was feeling the cold with a 'I'll be getting a cuppa at the end!'

Saw some gems that we would have missed. The 'wall walk' along the city wall provided a great view of the sites including the medieval York Minster cathedral.

We also visited a tiny church in its original state from the 15th century. The original stained glass was fantastic. The philanthropist had his image included next to Jesus. Funny guy.

Following this, we went to the the viking museum. Super cool roller coaster reenactment ride based on what the local archaeologists have learned from 1000 year old remains from below the city. The ride even had smells as you went though village, and included a viking at the end straining on the toilet.

Snowed heavily on the walk home. This is the first real snow we had. The prettiest of places to see snowed over. Walking to the pub next door for dinner- still snowing heavily 4 hours later, street's white. We will have to miss the ghost tour :(

  1. We've heard on the news about all the snow the UK and Europe have been having. It looks pretty. I hope you have had a snowball fight.

We did the Viking tour as well and thought it was hilarious how they incorporated the smells abs the guy going to the toilet. Did you guys climb Yorker Minster?
